Previously, I taught composition, creative writing, and literature courses at a community college in central North Carolina.
My teaching is influenced by Felicia Rose Chavez, Jay Dolmage, Peter Elbow, Paulo Freire, Kevin Gannon, Nikki Giovanni, Henry Giroux, Paul Heilker, and Eli Meyerhoff, among other thinkers and writers.
I believe composition of written and physical objects brings us closer to knowledge of ourselves, our communities, and our world.
As a fixed term instructor, teaching is 90+% of my job, and I teach a 4/4 load during the academic year, in addition to teaching 1-2 courses each summer for additional pay. I mention these concrete numbers to illuminate just how much time I spend teaching and thinking about teaching, as well as to explain how my pedagogy is shaped by teaching between 80 and 120 students each semester.
