I teach English 101: Writing and Rhetoric, English 202: Writing and Critical Inquiry, and English 212: Introduction to Creative Writing and Editing in the Department of English Studies at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC. Previously, I taught composition, creative writing, and literature courses at a community college in central North Carolina.
I also teach USI 101: Honors Forum for first-semester, first-year Honors students.
My teaching is influenced by Felicia Rose Chavez, Jay Dolmage, Peter Elbow, Paulo Freire, Kevin Gannon, Nikki Giovanni, Henry Giroux, Paul Heilker, and Eli Meyerhoff, among other thinkers and writers.
I believe composition of written and physical objects brings us closer to knowledge of ourselves, our communities, and our world.
Feel free to email me (ebrier [at] wcu [dot] edu) to begin a discussion on alternative assessment practices and composition pedagogy.
